A quick guide to "bundles" at SmartpenCentral
There are two kinds of smartpen: Echo and Sky
- The Echo smartpen transmits data via a USB cable (included) to a free application which you download to your computer (Windows or MacOS on Intel). The application is called "Livescribe Desktop" and may be obtained at any time from the manufacturer's website. Your handwritten notes and audio can then be viewed, organized, searched and shared in a number of ways, including Evernote, Facebook, GoogleDocs, PDF and more! For an Echo smartpen, you need not have direct access to the internet, but you do need a computer to run Livescribe Desktop.
- The Sky smartpen is configured to transmit data over WiFi directly to your free Evernote account on the internet. No computer is required but notes can only be uploaded when you are at a hotspot. Evernote is a cloud-based (internet-based) repository for all sorts of files (not just Livescribe information). Your handwritten notes and audio can then be viewed, organized, searched and shared in a number of ways! For a Sky smartpen, you need direct access to WiFi to upload data, but no computer is required! Once uploaded you may access your account from almost any internet-connected device including iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows and of course any connected computer.
There are two kinds of bundles: "student" and "professional"...
... and both kinds save you money with discounted bundle prices! The principal difference between the two types of bundles is the style and size of the paper that is included.
- Student bundles include a classic student spiral-bound notebook (8.5" x 11") as well as a portfolio designed to fit that notebook.
- Professional bundles include a hard-cover A5-sized journal (5.5" x 8.5") as well as a portfolio designed to fit the journal.
All bundles include extra ink as well as a lost-and-found application card (a SmartpenCentral exclusive!).
Echo bundles include "MyScript", a $30 application which runs within the Echo Livescribe Desktop. MyScript allows users to convert handwritten notes to typewritten editable text in seconds with surprising accuracy.
Certain bundles includes ear-buds, others do not... but the ear buds are always available separately.
